I highly recommend taking Spanish 2020 with Sara. A lot of people were afraid of the workload for this class or that they weren't ready to go into this level of Spanish, but honestly, I think Sara helped out a lot. She made sure that everybody understood what was going on and the lectures were straightforward. She speaks very clearly and will let you work with a partner pretty much every class. The homework is also easy to stay on top of, because it's mostly done on McGraw Hill or in some sort of other short assignment. The beginning of the class has the most homework, but once you get past that it's very manageable. Sara is very understanding and is always willing to work with you if you miss a class or need to take extra time on something. I ended up learning more in this class than I did in 4 years of high school. Sure, everything is in Spanish (as it should be!), but I feel like every single aspect of my understanding has increased. Sara is so kind and will make sure you succeed.
Sara Park is extremely thoughtful and considerate of difficult situations. I appreciated how she worked with me throughout the semester and extended some due dates. The class is a lot of busywork but it is the last course in the Spanish language requirement sequence, so you just have to get through it. The final grade is comprised of a lot of different types of assignments so no one assignment or exam is weighted too heavily. There's about three to five homework assignments due for every class. I usually studied and completed assignments for about an hour before each class. The exams have a few components including listening, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, verbal discussion with a small group, and written. All the written exams get compiled into a final project where you create a website on a cultural topic that you get to choose. I researched a current event in Panama regarding immigration and really enjoyed the long term project. It was good to learn how to do research in Spanish and have practice reading news articles. Professor Park is extremely knowledgable in Spanish, but English explanations are a little more difficult as it is not her native language. She is really understanding and sweet, and willing to meet with you in office hours. She is a fair grader and probably the best professor for this Spanish course!
