Professor Ortiz is easily the best Spanish professor I have ever have. All my teachers in high school were not of my liking and that had me worried for Spanish in college. But I could not have been happy randomly picking staff and ending up with Sr. Ortiz. Sometimes his explanations can be a bit confusing but he really tries to keep everything straightforward. This class does have a lot of homework, the eportfolio is pretty annoying, and languages are never very easy but I ended up with an A- putting in a decent amount of effort.
Ortiz has a new attitude everyday. He really tries to help out, but there is only so much he can do when the class is run by his boss. He can get an attitude really easily. I cannot tell you how many times I heard the phrase "if you don't like it, drop the class". As long as the class doesnt make him mad he will be amicable. The class is just a lot of homework.
I would not recommend taking Ortiz. If he likes you, he gives you a good grade. If he doesn't like you, or he is in a bad mood that day, everyone's grades are at risk. I put in a lot of effort for this class and he screwed me over a countless amount of times during the semester. The online portions of the class can be tricky and confusing for submissions, and he is never willing to help the slightest and is not forgiving if you have technical issues (it happens a lot in this class btw). He is not a fair grader at all, I ended up getting an A- on the final, and he gave me a B- in the class. STAY CLEAR
I tried to like Ortiz, but he makes that extremely difficult. Sometimes he is fun and entertaining, but most of the time he is overly-strict and an unfair grader. You really have to keep up with everything assignment-wise yourself because he will not tell you directly. He seems to get upset whenever students ask questions when confused. We also had a project which he failed to give us a rubric for. Due to this, the entire class failed the project. The class itself is not difficult, but Ortiz makes it much more complicated than necessary.
