Prof. Pasero is the shit. I hate Spanish and I just want to get my requirement done but he actually made Spanish fun and interesting. He knows every single persons name in the class by the second day and keeps you engaged throughout class. Connect is a bitch but everyone is 1060 has to do it. Would highly recommend taking 1060 with him
If you take this course, TAKE IT WITH PASERO-O'MALLEY! He's awesome. He is really nice and actually makes you want to learn Spanish. Awesome guy, awesome professor. Admittedly, the homework is frustrating due to Connect, but Connect is mandated by the Spanish department, so there is no way to get out of it. Judging him on the factors he has control over, he must be the best Spanish professor at this school, since I can't imagine anyone better.
Anthony is the man, take it with him. I am in it right now and will probably finish with at least an A-, maybe an A. The Spanish grading scale is BS because you need a 96 to get an A but an A- is easy if you took 2-3 years of Spanish in high school. The tests are a joke but only account for 50% of your grade, various projects make up the other 50%.Definitely take it with Anthony, you won't regret it
Professor O'malley has got to be one of the most enthusiastic and friendly teachers I've ever had, which is especially refreshing at UVa where in the majority of classes you form little to no bond with the prof. If you are at all able to choose who you take 1060 with, I highly recommend you take it with o'malley. He is absurdly upbeat during class and makes it pretty hard to become bored during the 50 minutes, and is just all around a very genuine guy who our whole class was in love with. He also graded the numerous projects and compositions that are required as part of 1060 very leniently in my opinion.
The class itself is sort of tedious but overall very easy. Online homework is due 5 nights of every week (sunday-thursday), usually taking less than an hour but sometimes longer. That was pretty annoying to keep up with, but other than that the other assignments are extremely doable and the tests are extremely easy. Most of the people I knew in my class were making >95 on every midterm.
I can't say enough about Prof. Pasero. He's extremely enthusiastic and makes the class enjoyable. The department requires a lot of online homework (every night) but when it comes to tests and other assignments, Prof. Pasero makes sure you are as prepared as possible and is then a very fair, and kind, grader. He cares about all his students and is very flexible, also one of the nicest men I've met. I don't know all the other professors but I cannot imagine there is a better one for this class. Prof. Pasero is one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Professor O'Malley is seriously the best professor I have had at UVA! He really cares about his students and he always make it known that he is here to help! He is the most enthusiastic professor you could imagine, and while it may not seem like that really matters, it really does! I would 10/10 recommend taking this class with him, even if it is a 9 AM (which I did) because it is honestly so worth it. He holds review sessions before every test and he brings some type of food to every exam. He really wants you to learn and succeed in this class! He is super reasonable if you have to miss class or turn in an assignment late, and he is just overall a super nice person. We all know we are taking this class because it is a requirement, but definitely take it with O'Malley and you won't hate your life.
Professor Pasero-O'Malley is wonderful! Really cares about his students and takes time to make sure you understand the material. He has helpful office hours and review sessions, which other teachers do not do. He is very energetic and engaging! This course is a big time commitment because there is homework every night.
He was my first Spanish instructor at UVA, and I am so thankful that he was able to give me a good start! I had his class first thing in the morning at 9AM, but he was energetic and engaging enough that I really enjoyed going to class. For one of the cultural assignments, I went to see a Spanish play at the Culbreth--to my surprise, he was one of the main actors! I don't think he teaches anymore, but if he ever does again, he is AMAZING.
