Not quite as hard as Electronics I because he doesn't test you on most of the *really* insane material, but definitely extremely difficult.
This is definitely one of those classes where doing well is a really strong function of understanding what's going on and being able to visualize it. Everyone who just let other people walk them through the homework and didn't make sure to get what's going on each week got wrecked, and people who did the opposite legitimately got close to 100s on everything.
Also, most of the tests are just Maxwell's equations (especially Gauss's Law), so if you can do Gauss's law problems 100%, you're a lot of the way there.
The lectures were clear. The homework can get tough but the office hours were very helpful (basically a free A for the homeworks). The exams are not that difficult (easier than the homework problems) in general but there can be some very hard problems, so you still need to review. Do not expect a final course curve above 2%.
To start off, let me say that I didn't do the best in Ghosh's class; however, I can say that I left the course with a real understanding of the material. The guy does not disappoint; he posts lecture notes, slides, and homework solutions without fail. The material is tough, as expected, but I can guarantee that if you go to class, do the homework, and maybe put in a couple of hours studying, you will do fine. I just wish now that I had put more time in before the tests re-doing the homework. REALLY understand that and you are golden. Viva la Ghosh!
This guy is sooooo helpful. His lectures aren't the best and he's a little hard to follow at times, but he works A LOT behind the scenes. He comes to every TA session to make sure they're explaining things correctly and is always well prepared for class. Responds well to complaints and suggestions, and fixes all his errors. Very helpful.
