I have mixed reviews about this class. For a while it was really interesting, but gets dull towards the middle. Very light on reading for a religious studies class, and the reading is easy to understand. Weekly collab forum postings and weekly quizzes. The class lulls you into thinking you are doing well in the class because the material is easy to understand, but the quizzes are 6 questions, so missing one question is an 83%, and he doesn't drop lowest grade. Also, you MUST show up to class, because he counts attendance as part of grade and because you will fail the quizzes without taking good notes in lecture. Overall, easy workload, but not easy to get an A or A-.
Professor Goering makes this class a lot of fun. He is passionate and very knowledgeable about the subject matter, and you can tell he really wants everyone to learn and succeed. However, that doesn't mean he makes the class easy. The reading is about average for religion classes but there are forum postings you have to submit every week to make sure you are doing the reading. He also has five quizzes throughout the semester to check on your reading. There is a midterm and a final (which were both pretty challenging) and a prophecy project that entails a video recording of your own original prophecy.
Professor Goeing is great, he really knows his stuff (and especailly likes to make connections to what the meaning would be in the original Hebrew) and he's very approachable. As far as the class, it's sturctured so that there is some lecture and some discussion during each class, which really helps to get a well rounded perspective of the material. The readings are generally interesting and are right on point with the material covered in class. If you do the readings, go to class, and put in the effort to study before tests and quizes, you will do great. I definitely recommend this class :)
