This class is fairly hard for no reason. The material is too broad to over everything for the midterm and there is too much packed into a 50 min exam. But on the other hand discussions were amazing, they truly made you think but in an enjoyable way. If you do not want to be a relgion major or minor I would shy away from this class. You probably will not get an A and waste a whole lot of time doing a whole lot of reading and studying. Plus Prof. Gamble has the most monotone voice in America
This class was just alright. It wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy. Either do the reading or go to lectures, you don't have to do both. The tests (1 midterm and the final) weren't all that hard, but you definitely have to know your stuff.
Prof. Gamble was pretty boring. Very monotone and he's old, so he kind of mumbles. and in a huge lecture hall, it can be very hard to hear him!
That aside, though, the material made up for his monotony. I learned things in this class about the Bible and Christianity that I never learned in my 18 years of being Christian. So it's definitely a worthwhile class in that respect.
My TA was Christine Landau, who I would not recommend. She wasn't all that good at facilitating discussion. She would ask very narrow questions, but would get frustrated when no one would answer. So shoot for a different TA.
So overall, I think i would recommend this class. It's not that much work. It's not an easy A but it's definitely an easy B.
This class was pretty easy--don't bother doing the textbook readings because he says the same things in class. But definitely pay attention in lecture because that's the most important for the midterm/final (even if it's easy to tune out his monotonous way of speaking). If you're familiar with the New Testament already you can get by without doing the readings out of the Bible as well, though it certainly helps to review the specific ones for discussion. David is a fantastic TA. This class is nice because there's not too much work throughout the semester (no weekly papers or anything), though that does put considerable pressure on the midterm/final grades. Some people though the midterm/final was challenging, but I didn't really think it was too bad--though I recommend forming a study group and splitting up the study guide he gives out before each and covering that thoroughly. Also, David held a review session for the midterm/final that was incredibly helpful so if a TA has one of those you should definitely go to it.
