This is a really interesting course and a good one to take if you're considering electrical/computer engineering or computer science. You'll learn a lot of cool things, assuming you put in the work (it's quite a bit, but definitely worth it).
However, be cautious if you're taking this as a first year, especially first semester - it's a true engineering course and it was a shock coming straight out of high school. Be prepared for that and you should be fine.
Also, Reed likes to throw you a lot of ridiculous homework problems... doable, but ridiculous. It's a HUGE help if you know some basic programming.
Very tough class. Reed is an interesting lecturer but he falls very short in many ways. His weekly HWs are very challenging in that we don't know how to even start solving them in many cases. No textbook and bad online notes make this even tougher. Had to use wikipedia and random websites all the time to get a decent answer for HW problems. His tests are also hard and he's probably the toughest grader i've ever had, so don't expect any partial credit.
Lots of very interesting material in this class. Most of it is covered at a pretty high level, so you'll have lots of trivia when you finish, not so many useful skills. The homeworks are either really interesting or horribly annoying, since he often won't cover the questions in class. Exams are based mostly on the homeworks, so make sure you get those. Problem sessions are pretty cool, though you spend a lot of time copying stuff into Mathcad. The biggest problem with this course is the grading. He's quite harsh, and he doesn't put the grades on Collab or tell you anything about the class average. He curves everything at the end of the semester, so it's hard to know how you're doing overall. If you're worried, ask him, and he'll let you know.
Such a wonderful course. I do however, say that retrospectively. This class is a great review of a lot of topics that come up in EE and CPE. However, do not think that this is an easy class or a GPA booster. The homework is brutal, but the TA is a huge help, you can work with anyone, and use the internet as needed. It's a great exercise in figuring out problems using anything you can get your hands on. His grading is really rough and at the end of the semester I realized that his final grades did not include any plus or minus designations so that was a bit disappointing. In short---interesting, helpful, hard, and worth it for some.
As I'm sure you all have heard, the homework in this class is quite difficult at times, and for me it was essential to work in a group (it is allowed). Tests were not bad and the concepts were pretty much taken from the notes. Take good notes. He does not post his written notes. I highly recommend this class for those interested in EE major, it is a good (but not thorough at all) overview of a lot of topics of double e.
