Very easy class although it isn't required, it is nice if you have the least musical experience. Exams are straightforward with a study guide given detailing exactly what's on the exam. Final project - easy. Final is 5% of the grade and is open book. Overall easy class.

So far my favorite class at UVA! Professor Tamarkin is awesome and is passionate about the subject. The class is pretty easy, there's some outside work like attending a concert and concert rehearsal, but the class material isn't that hard. It's fun learning about different style periods and composers too. Musical experience isn't required, but having some experience made it interesting for me.

This was the best class at UVa I have taken. Professor Tamarkin is akin to Betty White of music. This class was also extremely easy and was almost relaxing. If you have a background in music- it's an easy A+. If you don't have a background in music- it's a slightly less easy A+.
