If you want to learn an elementary language, please learn Italian!
Professor Bonino wants us to succeed and is always very upbeat and open during classes. She tries to accommodate all kinds of student requests. She even curved the last exam to help all of our grades. She even gives us exercises to improve our vocabulary and understanding of the language.
The class homework is graded on completion rather than accuracy. There are 6 straightforward diary entries. There are multiple opportunities to get extra credit.
There are 3 exams and a final project in this class, although all the exams only account for 25% of the grade. There are also listening and oral exams but there are very easy to get a full grade.
The only difficult part of the course is the grammar.
With minimal effort, it is very easy to get an A.
I love Professor Bonino! She is the sweetest person and genuinely cares about her students. She always provides feedback for projects, so you can learn and improve your grammar. So sad to hear that she might be leaving </3
Regarding the course, there are weekly readings and Vista (online homework) that goes along with the homework. The Vista homework are typically fill-in-the-blank, listening, and multiple choice. Over the semester, we had to complete four projects which only took about thirty minutes to finish, and Professor Bonino would give feedback on what was grammatically correct and what wasn't. In addition to our projects, we had discussion posts, also known as our Italian diary, where we would answer a few questions in Italian and, sometimes, respond to other classmates' posts. There is one midterm, one cultural assignment (speaking portion), a listening aspect to the final exam and the final. Overall, I would definitely take this class again with Professor Bonino! #tCFfall22
Professoressa Bonino is a gem! This was a great introductory Italian course that taught me a lot without overwhelming me. I would recommend Italian for anyone attempting to accomplish their language requirement. It doesn't require as much outside work or tests as Spanish, and after French in high school, Italian is much easier.
Most work was done on Vista Supersite, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but all languages will require some sort of online homework. There was one midterm, a listening, and a final, so no need to stress over unit tests. Sprinkled in were some projects/videos and movie discussions that were mostly completion, not graded on accuracy.
Professoressa Bonino would make sure to help us understand Italian culture and welcome the class to do their best. Some mornings she would play Italian artists or music and have us engage in conversation about them. It made for a really intriguing class.
Overall, I took this class at nine in the morning and still enjoyed it. I think that says a lot.
