There was a lot of reading for this class, but most of it was very interesting. Prof. Finder is really enthusiastic about this subject and teaching and is always willing to help. There were three papers and a final paper which werent too difficult but required you to have a good grasp on the information. I would definitely recommend taking this class if you can.
Finder is an incredible professor, and has a great deal of experience in human rights and genocide, both as a former lawyer and a historian. Has a great deal of knowledge both about the factual nature of the Holocaust and the languages and culture that surround the Jewish people of the time. If you can get into the class you will certainly not be disappointed.
Finder is a gem. You just have to take one of his classes while you are here at uva. If possible, take all of them, they compliment each other well. He is a great lecturer, things he taught in class really stay with you. Papers are not meant to trick you but to help you understand and appreciate the course material better. He is also a very nice person and loves to know his students individually.
Good professor and a great course. Lot of interesting material but he gets a bit specific about what he wants to see for the exam and the paper. Go to his office hours and ask about both and he'll be a tremendous help. If he likes you and knows you and you put in a good effort you'll be golden in this class.
