Professor Cantor is a good and funny lecturer, although he can be dry at times. The works of Shakespeare that we read are very interesting, although several are lesser known. The topic of Shakespeare's Rome is also interesting. This class is not hard as long as you actually read the plays. Both the midterm and the final have passage IDs. This means he gives you passages from the various plays and you need to say which play it's from, who said it, and the passage's significance. There is only one 5-7 page essay and as long as you participate at least once per class you should be golden. Easy B+/A-.

This course, "Shakespeare's Rome" is a great introductory class for UVA students, and also for anyone who likes Shakespeare or would like to learn more about him. The class covers plays Shakespeare wrote which either take place in Rome or which have Roman influence, and this lens provides a whole new way of understanding the world's all-time bestselling author. As long as you do the reading and participate, as well as take good notes (I cannot stress that point enough), you'll do well. For us, it required one paper and a final.
