I loved this class and would definitely recommend it. He is a great professor and knows a lot about directing. It is a small class and very engaging and hands-on. We did a lot of staging and working in groups in addition to studying some methods. The main homework was to read the assigned plays and then a few times to direct short scenes for the final. It will push you creatively and will require effort but if you're interested in the topic it is a great time! #tCFF23
HES SUCH AN EXCELLENT TEACHER. he’s so well educated, like he reallyyyy knows his stuff about drama. I’ve learned so much from him. He’s such a good teacher. He will explain everything in a way that’s entertaining, funny and makes a lot of sense. He will always take your opinions into consideration and he will analysis how that option can work and how it can’t work. His feedback is extremely helpful. If you’re interesting in directing, this is the class for you. He will challenge your creativity and expand the way you think about theatre. I want to continue taking his classes because I just feel like I have so much to learn from him.
Dave is great... he just asks a lot sometimes. He was incredibly flexible this semester (Spring 2021 aka Zoom University Semester 3), so I don't know how flexible he would be in person. The assignments are sometimes a little time consuming. Can't imagine how much more time consuming some of the assignments for this class would have been without Zoom. Also, for all the film people out there, this class is more oriented towards directing for the stage rather than film. I definitely still got some useful information out of the class, but I don't know if I would say I got enough information out of the class to justify taking it. Also, heads up: you'll spend the first like 4-5 weeks learning material, then apply the material to the first project, then you start over with a new play and apply the same material to that project :) Not a bad class by any means, but definitely a bit aggravating at times.
