Professor Pettit is a really nice and approachable guy. He is also a very good resource to go to if you have questions as he is happy to answer them and wants you to do well. His lectures are a little slow and not in depth, but he records them so you can watch his recordings at ur own pace. The topics covered in the class, however, are very interesting and important for understanding computer science.
Professor Pettit is a fun guy and is very responsive to student feedback. He wants you to do well in his class. However, this results in his lectures being slow and not as in depth. If you need help, going to lecture is a great place to ask questions. Otherwise, you can just watch the lectures on 2x speed and look at the slides. Overall, the material was worth learning despite the slightly slow pace.
This is one of those classes that has really important, fundamental content, and I appreciate that Pettit taught it in a fairly low-stress environment. At the same time, Professor Pettit was given notice at the last minute, apparently, that he was teaching this class, and as a result his uncertainty sometimes made it difficult to follow along. It felt as though we could have simply taken Algorithms rather than the Pilot and gotten the same material but more in-depth. I think his comfort level definitely grew and the end of the semester was fairly rigorous, useful content.
The course feels like a watered down version of CS 4102. The material isn't too hard, but I don't feel I get much from the class. Professor Pettit is a nice guy, but he seems a little unsure when teaching. He's genuinely interested in ensuring the success of the students, but this often results in him going light on topics.
