CS 1111 has been one of my favorite courses at UVa. It is really great for those who have a little background in CS or just like a fast pace of learning. The class meets 2x per week for lecture and that’s it, there is no lab section for this class. Honestly I originally tried to get into CS 1110 but couldn’t get into a lab section so I took CS 1111 instead which turned out to be a great improvement. CS 1111 has all the same assignments and tests, the only difference is that the lab assignments are optional and there is no lab section to attend. I’d highly recommend taking this class, learning Python is very helpful
There is no textbook requirement (you will get a link to a free pdf book). Class is great to start learning Python. Craig Dill teaches you the basics in class and through a homework assingment (coding) you will apply that on your own. There are labs to get help with your assignments but they are not mandatory. If you know a little programming before you start the class is will be easy going. In addition to two exams and 20+ programming assingments there is a final project where you will develop a small game with a partner.
