This course is a very boring course and is especially boring to sit through a lecture. Unfortunately this is a requirement for BME. Do not underestimate this course. The tests are relatively easy but they can be easily messed up if you do not prepare enough for them. The problem sets are very long and hideous but ....oh well...you gotta do 'em.
I was terrified to take this class because I was so bad at CS 1111 using Java. However, I really didn't think this class was as bad as it's made out to be. The problem sets were though and time consuming, but very math based which I enjoyed. The class moves at a very reasonable pace and the 2 exams given are straight forward, but much more conceptual than the problem sets. I never once attended office hours and should receive a solid A in the course.
This class was definitely very difficult. It was the first time it was taught by Saucerman and he obviously struggled a lot at first, but was very receptive to change. The problem sets were very difficult. Expect to spend up to 15 hours a week working on these. Exams, however, were extremely straight forward which was nice.
Just finished up with the course, and let me tell you it is the most work intensive course I have ever taken. Prof. Saucerman and Mr.Greenwald taught the course for the first time, but they definitely put a lot of effort into the course. They post YouTube video lectures which are extremely helpful, and they use class time to work on the daily quizzes and problem sets. As for the problem sets, they take about 8-10 hours to complete. The first 3 or 4 take even longer because no one knows how to use matlab which is frustrating. This is not a fun or interesting course, but it is a requirement for BME.
