This is a discussion class and is treated exactly like that. You'll usually get assigned a new play per class, so if you like to read especially plays and talk about them with other people in a classroom setting, then you'll do well in this class. If you don't like reading, you may have trouble keeping up with the class. Each class, there's a required 300 word discussion post that you write in the discussion section of Collab. Posts would have to do with the play you read, but could be anything related to your thoughts, as long as you did them, you would be fine. You will have to write 2-3 essays (4-5 pages each) throughout the semester about different plays like plot analysis (you get to choose from given options), line by line analysis (the play you analyzed for your plot analysis) and a scene analysis of an assigned play. Doug, is very experienced! He has a strong knowledge of dramatic structure and he's just a great professor who wants his students to succeed. He'll want you to make sure you understand what you're reading because he wants you to succeed in the class. When Tina Fey was at UVA, he even let her take grad school classes in the drama department. I highly recommend him as a professor and even in other classes too if you get the chance to take a class with him.
