Really great class! Fordham is so approachable and an engaging lecturer. He's also an extremely fair grader. I thought the material was very interesting, even for people who aren't as interested in Art History, but those who also want to learn more about British History. I would highly recommend going to his office hours because I think getting to know Fordham really gives you a leg up and greater appreciation for the class.
Really straightforward, enjoyable class. Professor Fordham is fair, fun, engaging, and clearly excited to share the material with students. I do not have a background in art history but found the course expectations to be clear and manageable, the grading to be clear and fair. Readings were relatively short and related to class content.
This is a really solid art history class. Fordham is extremely engaging, knowledgable and funny in lectures. The readings are pretty long but you can get away easily with skimming them for the forum posts you have to write weekly. At the beginning of each class you write a small response to a work of art on the board -- sometimes he takes them up sometimes he doesn't but when he does, that's how he tallies attendance (you're allowed to miss two). For the exams you have to know about fifty works/artists plus the readings so its a decent amount of work to study, but if you have all the info down, the exams are pretty straightforward. #tcf2016
This was a pretty easy class. Prof. Fordham is a pretty good lecturer and knew the material well. I basically took this class on a whim and I don't know when I would actually use any of this knowledge but I certainly did learn a lot about British Art History. There are readings for every class and they are all pretty dense and dull but insightful. Every week you have to contribute to a forum on collab and that is easy enough and helpful for reviewing for exams. There is one essay assignment that involves visiting a museum.
I have enjoyed Professor Fordham's classes more than any other course here at UVA (even though i'm a history major)- I'm getting ready to take my third in three years. The work is clearly explained, the choice of works is superb, assignments are fair and he has a great sense of humor during lectures. Can't recommend this professor/his classes enough.
