The most useless class ever. She's a militant SJW and her blatant hate for white males is quite hilarious to witness. Her grading is subjective, the class is a 3 hour seminar that just can't end soon enough. Stay far, far away from this class and actually enroll in something that's worth your time. This marxist "education" belongs in the garbage
I cannot recommend this course enough, especially if you are interested in AMST or literature. When Goff goes over the syllabus she may portray herself as a bit of a stickler, but that cannot be farther from the truth. She is very accommodating and truly cares about what her students gain from the class. The material is super interesting. The AMST side allows you to delve into real world topics of immigration and makes the course seem very applicable, and the ENGL side enables you to read a ton of really interesting literature. Reading can occasionally be a bit much since it's often around 100 pages of reading but it really isn't that bad. There are reading responses most weeks which do seem to be graded based on quality, but it's not hard to get 100s if you engage with the reading. Participation is 30% which is A LOT but Goff truly makes class seem very welcoming so it's not anxiety-inducing to speak up. The first essay is not too bad, and Goff says the final essay is supposed to take 10-12 hours of work but personally it seemed very doable in 2 hours, so not sure what that was about. There is a genealogy project which is also really cool, and we did have one test that was kind of a pain but I'm not sure if that will be on the syllabus next year. Goff always asks for feedback about improving the course so a lot of what I'm referencing might be changed in the future to make the course even better. Overall, this course was amazing and I am so glad I took it. I got an A without much effort at all and this class does not require a ton of work on a weekly basis.
