This course is amazing! Marcy is a great teacher and super nice person. This class introduces you to all the basics of sewing, and you work up from small hand-sewing basics to sewing on the machines and even using sergers. Whether you've never sewn before in your life or you have experience but would like to gain more knowledge, this is a great class! I'd been sewing for a few years and still definitely learned useful new things in this class (although I've gotten hooked on the serger and will miss not having one!) It's a really fun atmosphere, and as long as you're honestly engaged and trying to learn, you'll do fine. You also have to take a lab component, which is essentially doing any sorting jobs the shop might need or working on the costumes for the Drama department productions (which you can then go see for free as a student!). Even though the class was early (for me), it was probably my favorite class of the semester.
I honestly loved this class. It is an easy A if you go to class and lab. The one bummer is that there is a 3-hour lab every week where you work in the costume shop but it is actually interesting and mindless. I usually put on a good podcast or audiobook and just chilled while sewing buttons, or sorting fabric. You could probs even put quizlet cards on and study for other classes at the same time. Basically you learn how to sew and you get to make your own clothing item of choice for the final project which is fun. There is no homework unless you don't finish your project in class. Marcy is awesome but it takes a little while to warm up to you. Highly recommend this class if you are interested in fashion/design. It says you need course instructor permission/pre-req classes but just email Marcy and you're basically guaranteed in.
