Cortney was absolutely the best professor I have ever had in any class. This is your sign to take her class because it will be the best decision in your academic life. She was incredible at teaching the basics of acting while creating a completely safe space to let people express themselves and try new things! Additionally, she was especially good early on at making a friendly space where everyone got to know each other and we all became friends.

She always has a fun and exciting new way to get you ready for class, and she gives such great feedback in such a nice way on all the work you do. Even after finishing her class, she is an absolute joy to see around the drama building and talk to. I promise you, take this class, it will change your life.

Time Commitment: In terms of the workload itself, there was usually 0-2 readings per week, but none were heavy or more than 10 pages or so. We also had a short flipgrid recording due every Friday but most of them were <2min long and generally I could get them done in <15 minutes from when I sat down to start working. We also had to meet with a scene partner outside of class a few times throughout the semester, which probably totaled to about 6 hours across the whole class, but that could vary based on person. The only chunky assignments was a script we had to read for one scene, but that was not a recurring assignment.

P.S. the hr/wk of work is more like .5 for reading but it didn't let me do that :(

She's the best acting teacher I've ever had in my life. She's fair, she's funny, she's energetic. She's literally the best acting teacher I've ever had. I've never had someone give me so much support and understanding without no judgement in theatre. I felt like I could be a 100% myself in her class. She was absolutely incredible. One of my favorite classes at UVA. She challenged me, and actually gave me tools to improve my acting. I learned how to gain control of my body and not exhaust myself to do good performances. She has so much to teach and she cares about teaching. If you want to take acting, I'm telling you there's no better teacher to take it with. She will take you out of your comfort zone and get you to a level you didn't think you could. She sees you and she does her best to cater to you. Fantastic, spectacular, LOVED her.
