First class is an audition/placement test to see if you are in the right class.
After that you are exposed to a variety of modern dance techniques, you will really experience the growth of your abilities by the end of the semester.
10 minute journals are required after each class, and are collected twice throughout the semester. A conference also takes place to discuss any concerns, growth, feelings, questions, etc.
DANC 2220 was a great introduction to modern and contemporary dance styles. The class grade is mainly based on attendance and participation, with two self-evaluation papers throughout the semester. Although the papers seem easy, Prof. Mata is a more difficult grader than she seems to be! Make sure that you fully answer all of the questions in the paper prompts, make the paper coherent, and write at least 2 pages double-spaced, or else you could get a B in this 1-credit class. Additionally, Prof. Mata incorporates a lot of floorwork in her choreography. This was a good challenge for me, but it was impossible for dancers with knee injuries to do some of the choreography. Overall, DANC 2220 was a fun class and I learned a lot!
