This class was not exactly what I expected going in. There is a lot of readings that you do but it's only to discuss in class. There will be "movement" experiences (2-3) where you go into memorial gym to do some movement, but it is not anything that a person who has never danced befoe could do. I did not expect to do as much writing in the class, it almost felt as though it was an english class. The prof is a pretty difficult grader and I would find myself feeling frustrated when I got my feedback back. Our final paper was to be in chicago style and I have never done it before, so it was very difficult and she took off points for formating as if I would know better. She is still very nice though and attendance is part of your grade so make sure you go to class. I am glad I got my fine arts requirement out of the way though, I think I will end this class with an A-.
Great professor, the class is structured in an extremely organized fashion. You will be exposed to readings and videos that journey the development of dance throughout the years. You will also think about art in ways in which you never have before!
You have 2 3-4 page papers, 1 choreographer presentation and paper, attendance/participation grading, and a final exam worth 20% of your grade.
