CS 4501

Review for Algorithmic Economics, co-taught with Denis Nekipelov.

TL;DR: Pretty easy, not super in-depth, but very cool material. Would recommend if you're interested in the course description.

This course consists of 3 projects - there was originally intended to be 4 and a final project I think, but since it was the first time the course got taught, expectations were reasonably adjusted throughout.

The course can seem pretty intimidating when you start out - most of the math on the slides gets motivated, but not enough time is spent is generally spent on the math to really get an understanding/solid intuition for it. This doesn't end up mattering though because none of the 3 projects we did really require a deep understanding of the math - you just implement an algorithm generally. None of them are particularly difficult (if you start early enough - tonnn of time per) , although a working knowledge of Python + Pandas is pretty useful; if you know how to code but don't know either of those in particular you could reasonably learn what you need for the class via Google.

The econ part is pretty easy to pick up in the class; I knew 0 econ coming into the class but it's all explained pretty well and is pretty cool! My main criticism of the class is that most of the topics covered are something you can dedicate an entire class to so you never get super in-depth with anything - the intent of the course is very much to be an overview more than anything.
