(I don't like how course forum combines the ratings. Delong is a 4/5 for professor rating. Difficulty for me was a 2)
Professor Delong was super chill and very helpful. And I enjoyed this class a lot. But that being said, it seems like DLD is different according to the professor that you get, and professor Delong's material was much more hands on than most of the other professors that teach this class. There were no "required" lectures. We had "learning activities" that involved using a digital simulator to make your own circuits, and I personally liked it a lot. We also had weekly textbook readings, and we had three midterms, along with a final project. I want to discuss my feelings on each of these things.
- Talking with my other friends who took it with other professors, DLD with Delong seems to be much more work and difficult than other sections. They didn't have any learning activities like us. That being said, I think if you are diligent and ask for help to the TAs or Delong, it's easy to be successful. I felt there was more than enough opportunities for me to get through a project successfully.
- I didn't attend a single lecture because they were not required and I got an A.
- The weekly textbook questions were not hard. Unlimited attempts and the textbook is good at teaching. All exams were based on the textbook.
- Learning activities are difficult if you don't know what you are doing. And they tend to be harder than the material in the textbook. But like mentioned before, Delong is super helpful. He posts tutorial videos that are often good enough to get through.
- Now, here is my biggest (and maybe only) gripe with the class. The final was kind of bogus. I got an A for it, but it took me so long to figure out what was going on. Pretty much, the final project is where you are given instructions like your learning activity, and you have to make your own circuit. But there was almost no guideline on how to start and you couldn't ask questions. So I spent an entire week on it until I finally figured out what I was supposed to do. I felt that the final wasn't hard once I cracked what I was supposed to do, but this kind of made me end the semester on a sour note. Would be great if this could be fixed for the next semesters.
