SUPER EASY intro to a variety of CS topics. I found the course content interesting and useful. Dill is not the best teacher but the material is not hard. If you don't intend to take intro programming but want some basic computer knowledge, take this class. It's not the most fun, but it's not bad at all, and you will learn things.
Professor Dill makes it very easy to get a good grade in the class, as office hours are really helpful for the weekly assignments and homework is 60% of your overall grade and the final is not cumulative. I definitely learned a lot and parts were interesting but there was a lot that just didn't make any sense and the assignments were really challenging towards the end. Lectures were also extremely boring and it was very hard to sit through 75 minutes of him talking. I'd recommend the class for an easy A, but in order to get an A, you have to put in a lot of effort.
This course is a easy A, as long as you lowkey study for the midterm and final, and do all of the assignments that are due 11:55 P.M. every Sunday. If you do not do the work in the beginning, it is quite hard to cram it all at the end. I did not know anything about CS or coding going into this class, and I can say that I have learned a lot now being done with it. If you took AP Computer Science Principles or some sort of intro CS class in high school, this is a great class for you, however if you took IB or AP Computer Science then you may want to skip this class and go to intro to programming (unless you want the easy A). You cannot expect to get by in this class without at least a little bit of effort; however, with that little effort you will get a good grade. I found that going to office hours was also very helpful, as the TAs and professor often guided me through all the assignments (which are 60% of your final grade). Attending lecture isn't all that necessary, especially because he uploads all his powerpoints on collab.
This course is pretty interesting. Everyone said it was super easy but it has a sneaky amount of work. The tests are easy but don't take the assignments for granted because they definitely take a few hours to do. The class isn't hard but the assignments are due on Sunday night and if you start then, you will oftentimes have questions and nobody to answer. This class is interesting and I'm learning a lot about really cool topics. If you start the assignments earlier in the week and go to office hours for any questions, you will definitely get an A.
This course was super interesting. Professor Dill is a fun professor, but sometimes he does get off topic in the lectures. Office hours are really helpful for the homework assignments because they get harder as the course progresses. This is a good course if you don't plan on taking anymore computer science classes because it gives you a good overview of many topics but does not go into great detail for each one. Take specific notes in class because there is no reading so you are only tested on lecture material. The exams are also not cumulative.
This class was pretty easy. I took it to fulfill the Media Studies Practice of Media requirement and also to learn a little more coding for work. The first part about how computers work is a little boring, but once you get into html coding it's actually pretty fun. Then you learn some html, some css, and some Java. It's all very accessible, I had no prior experience. Perfect for what I wanted - I don't want to go into CS, but knowing a bit will help me in my job.
This semester, all the lectures were recorded and it was asynchronous. The lectures are kind of long - 1 to 1.5 hours and you have to watch 2 or 3 a week. Prof Dill spoke kind of slow, so I watched the lectures on double speed. Then, you have to complete an assignment every week (except you can skip one). You actually have two weeks to work on the assignments, but the weeks overlap. At the beginning they are very easy. As you go along, they get harder but if you're keeping up with the lectures, they aren't too hard.
There were supposed to be two exams. The midterm was open note, and pretty straight-foward. I think it was like 30 multiple choice questions. The final ended up getting cancelled, and everyone got credit for it, which was awesome!

I was scared at first about this class because I was taking it for an easy A, but many people said it's not actually an easy A. However after finishing this semester, I would definitely out CS 1010 in one of the easy A classes Ive taken at uva. Not sure how the course goes normally without COVID circumstances, but we had an assignment due every Sunday at 11:59 PM. The assignments are based off recorded lectures (which can be hard to sit through sometimes, as Prof. Dill rambles quite a bit) and the first few were just fill-in-the-blank-- super easy. Even if you do struggle with assignments, you can post a question on Piazza and Professor Dill and the TAs are super helpful. I do admit that a few of the assignments towards the end can be a little tricky, but if you commit some time to them it's not too difficult to get a 100/above 90. For the exams, it was really interesting; we were scheduled to have two exams (no final exam). The first exam went as planned, just 25 multiple choice questions, super easy. They even gave us a 4 point curve to accommodate for students not being able to ask questions during the exam. For exam 2, I was shocked because they decided to cancel the exam and just give everyone who had submitted at least on assignment during the semester a 100% on the exam. You can also drop one of your lowest homework grades, which was nice. Overall, I ended the class with almost a 100% due in part to the exam situation and also to designating a little time each week on the assignments. Super doable class. #tcF2020
I’m a BACS major who took this class for an easy A and definitely enjoyed how easy it was. Only have midterm and final but our final got cancelled and everyone got 100s!! Homework’s worth 88% and exams were 12% so pretty easy to do well in the class. Homework due every week which were based on the weekly lectures which i found boring but i was able to increase the speed of them. Overall concepts were simple and easy to understand especially with prior CS knowledge but I have no doubt non CS backgrounds will do well. Prof Dill spends a lot of time explaining concepts in his lectures to make sure you understand and he takes his time. Homeworks took me less than an hour generally. Topics involved excel, simple Java and html / css, pseudocode, IT, etc. Easiest easy A class I have taken at UVA. #tCFspring2021
This course was really relaxing, although I regret not taking CS 1110 or any other 11's since I didn't end up learning a lot of new material. There are 12 assignments overall, only 11 are counted (so you can skip one) and two exams that make up your grade. This was a very fairly graded class and I highly recommend to anyone that does not plan on going into CS!
