I took the Music Video Analysis COLA with Professor Ozment and I loved it! It's 1 credit so there isn't any homework besides the final project (it's a group or individual music video analysis; you can choose to work alone or with a group) at the end. The lectures go over the basics of music video analysis and how music and film are combined to portray greater ideas, and there is also a lot on the history of music videos which was super interesting. You also get to learn how certain music videos portray societal issues and that was really interesting too. Professor Ozment is a great lecturer and you can tell she really is passionate about the subject. She is also a really great advisor and tells me information that I didn't even know I needed. Making appointments with her is also very easy, and she responds to e-mails pretty quickly. She is super nice and helpful, 11/10 recommend to any first-years in the future! #tCFfall22
So I took Performing Arts with Professor Ozment!
This class is definitely one you should take as a first-year. Especially since you can get free tickets to some performances around UVa lol. But besides that, I think this class really brought up things I never even thought about before, such as thinking about life as a performance, and how inanimate objects can perform and tell you things about it. There is definitely some reading and writing for this class (which I thought was a lot of work for a 1 credit class TBH) but it was overall very enjoyable! Honestly, I think taking any COLA class would definitely be beneficial your first year because of the professor and also being around students in the same boat as you helps with the transition to college and getting accustomed to things.
