The title of the COLA I took was the Narriatives of African Refugees. In general it was an interesting course. This class hass enjoyable moments, like our field trip to Monticello and when Prof. Rotich invited some members of the Cville refugee community to come talk to us. Besides that, the course often felt like busy work. There was a large group presentation, smaller group project, and final paper in the class. All of this was work that I generally would not think about until Tuesday night when I remembered I had class the next day. I honestly feel like COLAs are romanticized at UVA and never felt like it was worthwhile. Prof. Rotich is a fine professor. My only gripes with her was that she would tend to cold call a lot. However, I just think the only thing I really gained from the class was a few friendships. There are some very interesting and worthwhile COLAs at UVA, however I wouldn't say this is one of them. A general word of warning, if there is space left in the COLA during open enrollment, it probably isn't worth taking.
