Extremely easy 1 credit course (workload was just a bit of reading and a reflection each week & you basically just need to show up to class to get an A) that was semi-interesting. The topic is "Social Equity and Early Childhood Education" since Lillard is a child psych professor, so I expected to learn more about the education aspect but we focused a lot more on Charlottesville history. This class sometimes felt like Intro to Racism, especially as a woman of color, and I didn't agree with some of Lillard's takes sometimes but she's still an overall nice person. She is really disorganized with due dates but it's not too big of a deal. I really enjoyed the guest speakers we had, but we sometimes had to go on unnecessary "field trips" outside of class time. #tCFfall22
The concept of this class is a solid 10/10. Execution -1/10. professor Lillard is very passionate about the concept but the class was very disorganized. Fluctuating between Montessori Education (the topic) and then looking at activities on grounds to make our community better. While I agree that the set up for this class was very good, it wasn't built for a "non-white" perspective. The focus on how she believes everything can be fixed does not entertain for any interest in prevention. Instead looks at a more feelingly performative activism in terms of impact. I would personally not recommend this class but I do think if they improve the setup and plan it has the potential of being trailblazing.
