Would definitely recommend this course. Dean Cole is extremely compassionate and has served as a wonderful advisor so far. The class is structured around one short reading a week (almost never took me more than 90 minutes), and most of them are very interesting. She gives two 3-4 page essays that are decently free-form and fun to write. You are also required to present the reading with a partner to the class once, which was fairly easy and low-stress.
I took the Literature of London COLA with Dean Cole, and it was a great class to be in. The works we needed to read before class every week took no more than 30 minutes to read and analyze, and she was really easy going with grading the essays. Overall, highly recommend, was a really chill class.

This course was fun and easy overall, and Sarah Cole is a very kind professor. The reading assignments were often intriguing, and we also discussed songs, poems, plus a great movie and an episode of Sherlock. The work was very light aside from two short essays that take more significant effort. I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in a COLA. #tCF2020
This course was really fun and not a lot of work. We had weekly "reading" assignments, but really, they ranged from reading excerpts of a book to listening to songs about London to watching a film or a TV episode. Every week, we submitted a discussion post about the reading assignment and discussed it in class. Dean Cole was an amazing professor and an even better advisor. She really cares about all of her students and wanted to do anything she could to help us grow and thrive at the university. I recommend taking this course if you're at all interested in London, and if you're not, I still recommend taking it just to have Dean Cole as an advisor.
Literature of London with Dean Cole is a great COLA to take! The subject matter and readings were interesting and fun to read (or listen to/watch, in some cases). Dean Cole is an extremely nice person who really cares about the people in her class, and she's great as both a teacher and an advisor. Every week you read a short assignment, then submit a discussion question online. In class, you discuss the readings with everyone else, and Dean Cole incorporates some of the submitted questions as well. You write two papers in this class, but there's no midterm or final (a welcome break during test season). You also get to hear from older students, a college life skills coach, a study abroad counselor, and several others to better get to know UVA and its opportunities. The small discussion format is also a nice, relaxing setting compared to some of the giant intro classes with no room for discussion. Overall, if you have room in your schedule for a COLA and are interested in the literature of London over the ages, I'd highly recommend this class!
This class was great! I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves to read. Sarah Cole was also a wonderful professor and made the class very interesting. A good bit of reading, but we read really interesting pieces. We even got to watch a movie and an episode of BBC's Sherlock. It was a nice breath of fresh air each week.
