COLA 1500

Professor Holt is an awesome professor! Visualizing Sports Data required near to no outside work, besides the 3 assignments we had throughout the semester. We had a demo that we would go through in class, and the things we covered in the demos would be the types of problems on the assignments. We typically were in class for about 30 minutes, then we had the option to leave or stay to ask questions about the assignment or about academic advising. The Python material we covered was interesting, even if you aren’t super into sports data. Professor Holt gives helpful advice about statistics classes and choosing classes in general. Would definitely recommend taking this course, especially if you’re interested in studying statistics!

Very easy, not stressful, 1 credit course. Prof Holt's philosophy is a COLA should not give you stress. You do not need any experience with R programming because the assignments have a template that is almost exactly like the questions. There are only 3 assignments the whole semester, so other than the weeks those assignments were assigned, there was no work that needed to be done outside class. #tCF2020

TAKE THIS COLA! Professor Holt is awesome, and there are only 2 assignments all semester that you can probably do in an hour combined. An automatic A like a COLA should be. I laughed at my friends when they were up all night doing papers for their cola.

Highly recommend this course if you are even slightly interested in stat or programming. The title is super daunting, but definitely an easy and informative COLA. There is no work outside of class and Prof Holt is the nicest man ever. There are only 2 homeworks the entire semester and you do them in class and pretty much the whole class works together on them and everyone gets a 100.

Prof Holt is the MAN. The class itself is very easy and the homework is minimal to none like a one-credit advising course should be. He doesn't give tons of hw like some COLA professors. Rather than seeing it as another "class", he sees the COLA as his own personal focus group so we spend a lot of class time chatting about classes and UVA in general- he is head of the STAT dept. so he's always looking for ways to improve his own classes and wants our input. His advising is also very good. If youre looking for a laid-back COLA with a bomb advisor, look no further- don't let the boring title scare you off.
