Please love yourself and take this class with John Lyons the review below me is spot on. Professor Lyons is great, great to talk too, and always has something insightful and helpful to say. There's no homework just short readings here and there that you talk about. To be honest a COLA is a time to sit with 15-20 other first years who are just as stressed, lost, excited, scared as you are. It was my FAVORITE time of the week and even into my second semester I love stopping by his office and chatting with him. Go enroll lol
Professor Lyons is maybe the nicest man on grounds. He genuinely seemed to care about us, and since there were only five of us, we all got to know each other pretty well. There is almost no work in this class. You just have a short reading like every other week and then discuss them in class. You do have a 1000 word essay at the end of the semester, but it's a "Journal of Discoveries" and perhaps the easiest thing I have ever written.
DONT BE TURNED OFF BY THE TITLE OF THE CLASS!!!!!!!! READING AND SOLITUDE IS NOT AN EXCITING TITLE BUT I PROMISE JOHN LYONS IS THE BEST AND THIS CLASS IS WELL WORTH IT
