We meet everyday for 50 minutes. During the class, we do a daily test where the professor reads something in Chinese and then we spent the whole class speaking and doing pair work. This class was a good mix of practicing speaking and writing, while homework covers listening and reading. Love Gao Laoshi!
Gao laoshi was amazing this semester!! There are no reviews on here about her so I thought I should write one because she deserves it and I thought it would be helpful. Gao laoshi is super willing to help all of the time. I could tell that this semester being online was a little challenging. Especially, when people are not as willing to participate when online, I'm guilty of it too, but she was able to still attempt to make each class interesting and fun by making different topics for breakout rooms. One thing that can be annoying is that every class is set up the exact same way (but I'm sure it's like this for all Chinese classes): learn new text, learn new grammar, new vocab, have a tingxie every day, then at the end of the lesson there is either an oral or a written test. I think that Gao laoshi grades very fairly on oral tests, if you know what you're talking about, try to use new grammar structures, and include new vocab, then you should do fine. As for the written tests, it can definitely be difficult to write the essays in time but usually, she will tell you the prompt beforehand so you can have an idea of what you want to write. Overall I would very much recommend!
