Great course. Came in with no experience or knowledge of chinese whatsoever, and learned a great deal. After just one semester I can already hold conversations with native speakers on several topics and both read and write using chinese characters. There was no option for the professor, Long ShuiShui, who was a great teacher. She pushed us to learn everyday and we went through material very quickly, but she taught well and I was able to keep up. Heavy workload- daily dictation quizzes, weekly presentations, daily homework and triweekly exams. Largely speaking based- not a word of english is spoken in this class unless absolutely necessary.

Long ShuiShui is a Great Teacher. Very good for beginners and the quizzes and HW are very manageable. Would recommend.
