Chen Laoshi is very good at making the students learn Chinese. The class is harder than some intro classes, but it's really worthwhile and you definitely learn a lot.
Would recommend it to anyone because you learn a lot. She teaches just as well as the other teachers, but she is also an easier grader. Take that as you may
This class is a ton of work. You will do dictation and writing exercises almost every class, and the the weekly homework assignments take a while. However, you do learn a lot of Chinese. I went from knowing nothing to being able to speak to my Grandma in a basic conversation. Chen laoshi is strict and tough, but she cares about her students and will help you with anything
Chen laoshi was an okay professor. She is kind of strict at times, and her sense of humor is very sarcastic and sassy. However you do learn a lot of Chinese. This class requires a lot of work and dedication, so you have to be committed to learning Chinese. Find a good routine early on in the semester and stick to it. I found that making flashcards was really helpful. Previewing the tingxie sentences and practicing the characters you don't know was another good way to learn. Tingxie can be a bit annoying, but it's definitely worth it in the end. Just do your homework, go to class, study hard for the tests, and you should be able to get a good grade! This class is so rewarding at the end of the semester when you realize how much you've learned in only a few months!
