While orgo is not the easiest subject, Gerrans is a fantastic lecturer and makes the class as painless as possible. He tells some pretty funny stories sometimes and tries to keep the class interesting. While his tests are somewhat difficult, he is very fair in testing what he has gone over in lectures. Very patient and explains concepts well in office hours too.
Fantastic professor, he made me want to minor in chemistry. Can be a little dull at times (but that's just orgo) and he sneaks in random jokes once in a while that keep you on track. Tests are pretty much all from lecture but reading the book helps understand some material. Class is usually spent copying down his notes but when you look back at them to study they're very very helpful and clear - he repeats important concepts over and over in case you missed it the first time. Tough class, great professor.
Couldn't get into Burnett's section? It's not the end of the world. Gerrans is definitely the next best option. He presents the material very clearly, if you take good notes you won't need the textbook except for the practice problems. Exams will have a couple questions from left field but are straightforward for the most part.
