Professor Gerrans is the greatest Organic Chem professor ever. I never seen a professor whom comes into class, gives the most organized lectures ever, and still has time for any student in and outside of class. Office Hours and appointments are very helpful because Gerrans will answers any questions you ask and will work out all mechanisms asked of. Tests are fair, but you have to understand the material in order to perform well on them. When you miss problems on the free response sections of quizzes and the final, you rarely receive extra credit unless the problem is conceptual. The key to succedding is taking very good notes in class, understanding the chapter homework, and past quiz and final problems. I found it more helpful to study the quiz and final problems more than anything because the questions are very very similar to the questions on the actual quiz.
Professor Gerrans is a very approachable and followable lecturer. Although he brings light to all the course objectives he makes it tangible even to those who may not intend on majoring in chemistry. His test format is challenging, but fair and is exemplary of your understanding of the represented material.
