I highly recommend taking this class if you are even remotely interested in archaeology, anthropology, and/or the ancient world. Professor Rosado-Ramirez is such a sweet man, and is always very available to help. The coursework for this class was very light. 1-2 videos or readings per week, and the only actual homework assignment is to submit two discussion questions a week. Other than that, there are three short essays throughout the semester that are very straightforward. You can use all information he presents in class, meaning no outside research is required. There is also one final project at the end of the semester, but there are multiple formats in which it can be completed. All in all, if you need an enjoyable class with a relatively light workload, I would definitely recommend ANTH 2559 with Professor Rosado-Ramirez.
I agree with the other review here completely. I wanted to go on here to vouch for both this class and Professor Rosado-Ramirez. Incredible guy who brought positive energy to every class. It was not super difficult, but I still felt like I learned a lot. The work we did have was interesting! I can't recommend this guy enough. Even in archaeology isn't your thing, you will not regret taking this class.
I 100% recommend it! Not just the class but the professor, he is such an amazing lecturer and makes his classes interesting. He cares about all of his students and wants them to succeed. He is always willing to meet and is a great person to have a conversation with. This class is one of my favorite classes at UVA and I'm not even an anthropology or archeology major. There are no exams. He assigns daily discussion questions on the readings, 3 short essays, and a final project. You also get tokens that you may use for certain things like extensions or arriving late. You learn so much from this class and it's enjoyable. If you put in a decent amount of effort it is an easy A. TAKE THIS CLASS or any class he teaches and you you will thank yourself.
A model professor. He made sure to incorporate everyone's perspective and truly cared to see what the class thought about many of the thought provoking information provided in class. He is adept at synthesizing complex history and providing simple yet effective explanations. He understands that students have lives beyond class, and as such, is extremely flexible to needs. The content itself is also very interesting, even for someone who normally would never study this subject. I learned so much in this class, and would genuinely recommend it to anyone looking to expand their knowledge on history and pan-American cultures. I still reference information I learned in this class. The rare "easy A" that is truly rewarding.
Again, a great professor and even more, a great teacher.
