Baber is highly intelligent, so much so that he has a hard time coming down from the clouds and 50 year old jargon to make things easy to understand and learn. He teaches with powerpoint, (UGH) and flies through the slides.
The homework is often confusing and requires several hours most of the time.
Tests are open book, open notes, open homework solutions, but beware, that's not going to help you much.
Baber is incredibly nice, though hard to get a handle on for office hours as he has none posted.
This course gave a decent introduction to Metal Design. Professor Baber is extremely knowledgeable, but unfortunately the lectures can be very dull. My issue is with the amount of PowerPoint lectures--perhaps it's my own problem, but I found it hard to pay attention to a 50 minute lecture being read straight from the PowerPoint. Maybe more videos, group work, etc. would help. The in-class examples helped with the homework and exams, for which you're allowed to use his class notes and homework solutions. It's not difficult to do well in the class, but it's not particularly interesting.
