Took this class because of the high GPA and got around that. But it was definitely not as easy as it sounds. There's a LOT of information packed into the semester. Peterson prints out her slides and students buy them, but that's just a WASTE of paper and your money. I would recommend using your laptop and a notebook anytime there's equations. Overall, I thought it was really interesting and the tests were pretty manageable because you get cheat sheets. Homeworks were annoying because she's pretty specific in what she's looking for , but you get to work with partners and she gives you ample time (so go to office hours!).
CE 4160 is a pretty cool course that focuses on microbiology in civil engineering by discussing wastewater and solid waste treatment. There is a pretty substantial amount of biology that is covered in the first third of the course so keep that in mind! LCP goes through a lot of material each class but gives you the slides ahead of time and will even print out course packs for students at cost which I would definitely recommend. The format was homework (30%), two midterms (30%), a final (20%), quizzes (10%) and a group project (10%). There is usually about one quiz a week and counts for attendance and to check if you did the reading - but honestly you can probably still get a 100 on the quizzes even if you don't do the readings. She also posts all the readings on collab so you don't have to buy any textbooks unless you want to. The homeworks aren't too bad at the beginning of the semester but definitely get tougher towards the end. If you go to office hours she is definitely willing to make sure you understand! The midterms and final were not too bad because you can use a cheat sheet that you make - but there is a lot of information to cover so definitely review. Overall would definitely recommend the course - I didn't know much about this topic but the professor's enthusiasm for the subject definitely made up for it.
