GREAT class. Lectures are not necessary. Wagner went to UChicago and it shows--the guy is weird as hell. But, if you enjoy reading good fiction (do not be put off by the fact that it is science fiction, the assigned books are phenomenal) and can string together a coherent paper, this is a very enjoyable gut. 3 5-page papers, no midterm, no final
This was a great class. There's a lot of reading, but it's all science fiction, and it's really fun. The professor is pretty extreme, and some people don't like him, but if you go into it expecting some crazy things, it's a great class. I highly recommend it, especially as a fun class to lighten up the rest of your load, but it still makes you think.
This class was an easy A. You read 6 science fiction novels (which were pretty interesting) and write 3 papers (1 paper for every 2 books). The paper topics are so bizarre, but a few were straight from lecture. I think as long as you support your argument and have explanations, you'll get an A. I totally didn't know what I was writing about even though I read the books and I got an A on all 3 papers. He claims that he and his graders are harsh to make sure theres an even distribution in grades...but I don't believe this. The professor is kind of wacky (wears metallic suits and colorful ties) and is a pretty imaginative and fun man! If you need a social science class, this one is pretty easy.
