Like all the other reviews say, Adams is an extremely good professor and easily one of UVa's best. He's extremely good at what he does and there's never a question he can't answer. However, don't let the high average GPA in this class fool you. This class is not easy at all and you have to put in crazy hours outside of class to study. The tests are quite difficult and will push your knowledge of the material to the limits. You'll need to study every day for this class, but you'll learn a lot. I didn't do well honestly (got a C) but even if you don't do well you'll live. Also the format of this class is honestly not something I did well with. He records his lectures and provides a few slides (just scientific figures, no summary of info) sometimes. He also draws pictures on the board and figures that contain important information, so you have to come to class or get the notes from a good note taker if you missed it. Brush up on your note taking skills if you're going to take this class, because you'll need them. The homeworks, however, are not bad at all. I got As or B+es on all of them. The critiques are also fine if you land in a good group. The tests are just killer though. Overall, don't underestimate this class at all and be prepared to work your butt off. It's a very worthwhile class and you'll find that you learn a lot. Good luck.
All the reviews will say this - Milton Adams is a great Professor. He's fair. He won't tell you if HW answers are correct at office hours, but you can try to ask him if there's anything wrong. The only downside is that lectures are easily missable since its 8 AM but if lectures aren't missed and very good notes are taken during class (it's basically all from the notes) then you should be fine. 2/3 of the tests are take home and the averages are high but the final average drops for some reason, even though the difficulty level is only slightly harder. The material was interesting though, I'd say to take it if you're interested in human physio
Adams is an awesome professor. Makes an effort to get to know you personally if you make one as well.
Great teacher. Clear and understandable. Material is dense and there's A LOT of reading and memorization.
That being said, if the body and how it works fascinates you, you DEFINITELY need to take this class
Little bit intimidated taking this class a first year, but it was well worth it. The material in physiology i is so interesting and prof. adams makes the material understandable to a class that is definitely not familiar with the jargon of human body. The class consists of 3 midterms, 4 hw's, 3 critiques, and 1 cumulative final (watch out for it, it can be quite cumulative). Everything that he made you do, though, helped to really understand the course material. Even if you bomb a critique (like I did), you can still get an A. I highly recommend this class to anyone who has even a slight interest in physiology or biomedical engineering!
Milton is great! Interesting class with an awesome professor. I would definitely recommend this class. Three critiques which are very formulaic and four exams. Adams posts audio of all of the lectures, so I would recommend listening to these to cement the information in your mind and get your notes on point since their isnt a textbook.
Good class. Straightforward. My only reservations about physiology is that 8AM is an awful time to being paying attention in class and for a visual learner, his lectures can take some time to get used to but audio lectures are posted on Collab. Overall though, Adams is a great professor, very willing to help his students. The discussion component of the class is not difficult. It's more annoying than anything but it's helpful to get used to group papers.
This class has no textbook, so even though class is early in the morning, try to pay attention and take notes during class so you don't have to re-listen to lectures (which Dr. Adams records and puts on Collab) later at home. Pay attention ot the diagrams, too! Tests are fair, and the take-home parts of tests do help boost your grade. There are group critiques of 3 research papers you have to do - try to figure out a system that works well for your group so you don't end up writing it last-minute. Dr. Adams invites everyone over to his house for chili dinner at the end of the semester - definitely go!
The class doesn't have a textbook but there are audio lectures which definitely come in handy. You don't have to do much work besides the tests(which are take home) and group papers. Interesting class and Professor Adams is enthusiastic about the topics loves teaching. 8am is a bit early but I would definitely recommend this class.
Great professor. Adams made the class enjoyable. Make sure you plan out accordingly if you want to listen to the recorded lectures again before tests so you're not listening to hours of lectures the night before. Make sure to pay attention to the diagrams in class too. Lastly, go to the chili dinner!
This was an awesome class! Professor Adams is a fantastic teacher- he's enthusiastic, knowledgeable, approachable, and funny. The material was presented in a very comprehensive manner and he really helped make difficult concepts seem intuitive. The exams are fair (there's 3 of them and a final) and they consist of T/F and multiple choice. There are also 3 short review articles you write in groups during discussion sections (which only meet 6 times during the semester). There were 2 homework assignments that count as part of your test grade, which was a good grade booster. Oh and an added bonus, Professor Adams invites all of his students over to his house for chili during finals!
Professor Adams is great. He makes physiology so interesting, his lectures are well organized, and I really like the way he gives summaries and says important things multiple times so we know what's important. Helpful in office hours, the homework is really easy, it's nothing compared to normal e-school homework. The critiques are kind of annoying but not that much time/effort.
I absolutely LOVED this class. Professor Adams is one of the best at the University - he is extremely knowledgeable and approachable. He doesn't need notes for lectures or review sessions and will answer any question. Homework sets are straightforward and tests are very fair. If you are at all interested in physiology, take this class!
Even though the material was challenging, Professor Adams presented it in a very effective way. I learned a lot in the class, and his lectures were always entertaining. The homework isn't that bad, and if you have problems he is very helpful at office hours. What I found most difficult were the couple of critiques that we were assigned.
