I do not recommend taking a class with Professor Haimes if you expect to be treated with respect. For some reason Haimes treats his student like they are in high school, criticizing students if they are not taking notes and berating students for being late to class. Also, he requires you to have a name card and he will ask almost daily why students are not in class. Make sure to respond, "Why are you asking us? Shouldn't you be asking the students that aren't in class?". Honestly though, Haimes is a pretty terrible professor but the material is pretty easy even though there are about 20 homework assignments throughout the semester that repeatedly ask you to construct a unique problem of your own choice and to apply whatever we learned in class.
The above review is completely correct. This class is awful and Haimes is an equally if not more awful professor. I was on homework #18 in this class when all my other classes where on homework #9. He has no idea what he is doing, I sent him about 5 emails asking him questions and he never responded. When I asked him a question after class he would refer me to the TA who would be equally unhelpful. However, if you want to take this stupid class the one upside is that it is very easy. Everything you learn will be extremely easy compared to other Systems courses. I went to class once a week at the most at received an A-. Despite my lack of attendance and a good grade, I would rather redo my entire SYS 323 project than take this course again. This class sucks.
Horrible class. Haimes is a sweet old (very old) man but can't communicate with undergraduate students at all. Don't take this class. It's really not that hard but trust me don't take this class it's a very frustrating experience and you won't learn anything. Seriously, really really bad course the dude doesn't belong in a classroom.
