Professor Smith was a fine professor and his lectures were usually fairly engaging. We did spend a lot of time talking about traffic, which was really boring. However, this class was a lot of work. There was a case study or homework due every week, and they took a lot of time to do well. You could get by with spending less time on the assignments if you just want a B, but in order to do well and get an A, you had to put in a lot of work.
Waste of time. While the course did give insight on systems engineering (as it was supposed to do) and was not as work-intensive as other engineering classes (looking at you APMA 2310), the class was made unenjoyable due to the instructor. The case studies we had to work on, especially ones assigned during the second half of the semester, were frankly horse crap. The instructor is disorganized and does not give ample resources to go along with the lecture resources.
At least one good thing came out of this class - I know that I am definitely not majoring in systems engineering at UVA!
