This class was during the summer thats why the HW hours seem so high. You read 4 books (read as you go and discuss) and write 2 papers, 2 presentations, and a final. The first paper isn't graded, the second is. The presentations are easy just powerpoint. The final is easy she gives you the question and you edit your first paper. Prof. Baritaud is the best teacher I have had at this school. She is the nicest teacher and willing to do anything to help you. Great class, easy A, no questions if you are staying for the summer and need an STS200 elective or an HSS elective then this class is great. Also, for the college check on it because it used to count as a second writing requirement.
Baritaud is a nice and very interesting professor. I loved her class and the books she chose were quite interesting. However, the way she grades is extremely subjective. I spent a great deal of time on her assignments and got good grades on everything but then in the end she assigns a random letter as your final grade.
This class was very easy. She assigned us 4 books that were kind of interesting but didn't need to be read fully because the she splits the class into groups that take on a different chapter and give presentations about their sections. The writings weren't very hard and neither was the midterm or final. She is a very nice lady and if you want a pretty low key class I'd recommend taking hers.
THE WORST INSTRUCTOR IN UVA, she is not even a professor, so biased and favoritism, I see some liars and her favored students write for her. she judges you on your appearance, and if you ever late for her class once, or use cellphone once during the class, no matter how hard you work on your essays/assignments, you will get a C/D/F grade randomly. Student appeals are alot about her, some students want to sue her too,the administration knows about everything, but no one fires her, definitely a ruining of UVa reputation.
Baritaud is hilarious! Her class was really entertaining and interesting. I definitely gained a new perspective about the roles of engineers within society. Unfortunately (or fortunately) she was on jury duty for a good part of the semester so we didn't through as much as she intended (seemed to be a common thing in the class). I really enjoyed her class though!
