This is a grad level Stats class that might be more accurately titled Advanced Regression Analysis. It essentially picks up where STAT 3120 left off and spends the entire time on regression in a variety of forms. The class is heavily focussed on the program R and you will need to download and learn how to use it to do most things in the class. This is not a difficult task as Professor Woo walks you through it. The workload can be heavy at times, but nothing unmanageable and the homework is perfect preparation for the tests. On the tests you are allowed to bring one front/back sheet of handwritten notes (2 for the final) to use. Studying consists of cramming as much as you can onto those sheets and completing practice problems.
Professor Woo is very helpful in office hours and often cracks jokes in class. Definitely one of the better professors in the STAT department. I took this class in the same semester as his other class (Time Series) and found him to be both knowledgeable and able to explain upper level concepts in easy-to-understand terms. I would not recommend this class unless you are a MATH or STAT major, but then again why else would you be reading this review. If you need to take STAT 5120 then take it with this professor.
