-This class is unnecessarily lecture heavy, which makes the class very tedious and uninteresting
-She will often go off lecturing about topics that are vaguely related to what is at hand. She'll start talking about the entire history of one person and this barely leaves us time to discuss the literature at hand. Oftentimes, she'll start asking questions about the history of the questions, but the majority of the class doesn't know because we're not history majors. This just further stagnates the discussion.
-She does extremely annoying reading quizzes which don't do anything except test us on the unimportant minutia of the reading.
-The only part of this class that I really enjoyed was reading the works to prepare for class- which are super interesting, but I assume these will be generally similar between the professors.
-Some classes she would spend the whole class just talking even though this is supposed to be a discussion based class
-She is clearly very knowledgeable but does not do a good job of provoking discussion and engaging us- she is not an effective teacher- and this class was extremely boring on occasions because of this.
-She didn't use collab gradebook at all which was a huge disadvantage- we have no idea what our grade is...
-Whenever she asks questions, she is always sitting on a very specific answer she wants. She's not very open to our interpretations/ideas- when we would present our ideas she would always say, "Bueno, pero ¿qué más?"
This class is a breeze if your Spanish is good and you did well in Texts and Interpretations. Lagos doesn't accept poor grammar, which honestly I appreciate considering that people graduate with language degrees and still speak horribly if professors aren't strict. Therefore, don't expect a lot of grace regarding basic mistakes. If Microsoft Word would correct it, you'll get marked for it (verb conjugations, gender articles, adjective agreement, etc.) I thought the literary element was easy too. My Texts and Interpretations professor really pushed us and made me WORK for an A-, but it paid off afterwards when I got into this class and finished with an A without too much effort. She doesn't really like it if you stray too far away from her interpretations, which can be limiting I suppose, and not great for critical thinking considering she basically tells you the answers a lot of times, but the papers were super flexible. You could basically write about anything that we had covered so far, be it one work, several works, a recurring theme, etc. I thought she was sweet, but I feel like not everyone in my class would say that. Give her a chance and assume best intentions. I would recommend her, PERO ESCÚCHAME- you have to sit near the front or you won't hear a word she says. Her voice is soft and high-pitched, and you'll be lost in the back row.
Ugh I barely understood her. She really seems to favor boys but maybe that's just me. I was very unclear on her grading expectations as they were all over the place. She is very nice but I dreaded the class and there was no variety. Not bad to knock out the requirement but I wouldn't make this choice again.
