The thing that made this survey so good was the instructor, Cole Rizki. Professor Rizki is an extremely caring man and strives to make his class enjoyable for everyone. He selects interesting readings, especially the book, Tengo miedo torero, that we read during the last few weeks of class. There's a short 150-word discussion post before each class and you have to participate because participation is a big part of your grade. There are 6 essays total, but they are spread out and all except the very last one are pretty short. 4 of the essays are a "critical response" about one of the readings and 2 of the essays are a "contemplative response" about your experience and learning from the course. It's a survey, so there's gonna be a decent amount of work but it's all manageable. Professor Rizki is a very flexible professor and is willing to give extensions if needed. #tCFF23
I honestly really loved this class and Prof. Rizki as a professor! He was obviously very passionate about what he was teaching about and he made a point to include the class and pick diverse works, but he was at times disorganized and work would sometimes become extremely variable from a 5-10 min reading to a book and a documentary before class. I couldn't keep up with certain heavy workload days, but as long as you attempted one work and came to class with some good thoughts you will honestly be fine. The graded assignments were very manageable, and as long as you listened in class you will very easily have something to write about.
I really enjoyed the readings, but the reading schedule outpaced my ability to keep up with it near the end of the semester. Grade based on 4 literary analysis papers and two self-reflection papers plus participation. Prof. Rizki is a great professor and selected a great group of pieces for us to read throughout the semester.
I absolutely loved taking this course with this professor. The course involves discussion posts on most readings, 4-5 essays on literature material, and 2-3 personal reflection essays. Professor Rizki choses lots of interesting pieces for us to look at that come from a variety of topics. He often chooses multiple types of medium for the same topic which is very interesting. The work is not too overwhelming and he makes class a comfortable environment to participate. I greatly recommend taking this course with Professor Rizki.
