There is reading due every class of varying lengths (vocabulary typically difficult but manageable). We had random pop quizzes ("mini examenes") to hold us accountable on our reading and comprehension. There were four "comentarios" completed in class in which you were given an excerpt from a selection of the texts we read and had to contextualize the text historically and analyze it using the themes/key points discussed in class. There were two exams in which you had to do a smaller comentario and choose discussion questions to answer about the texts we read. We were allowed to use notes for the comentarios but not for the exams, although the discussion questions were given beforehand so you can prepare ahead. Each student has to do a ~30 minute group presentation with ~3-4 other people on one of the topics (including a summary), which you sign up for at the beginning of the course. Profesor Jesus was extremely lively, engaging, and kind. However, there were no rubrics for any of our assignments, and therefore it was unclear what his expectations were. I often got random grades with no explanation, which was frustrating. I recommend taking this class because it was enjoyable, but it definitely requires work and is not a guaranteed "easy A."
