SPAN 3400

Considering this is a required class for spanish majors/minors, Weber makes it relatively painless. She's a really sweet lady and knows her stuff!

Professor Weber definitely knows and loves Spanish literature. There's a fair amount of reading and you need to do it, because she calls on people regardless of whether or not you're raising your hand. Two five page papers aren't difficult and a fairly writing-intensive midterm and final. Worthwhile class although it wasn't my favorite lit time period

Weber is great. The reading material is very clearly challenging, but she does a great job breaking it down. Not a terribly hard class, but not the world's most interesting either.

This class was pretty much what you (or at least what I) would expect from a Spanish lit class--read some Spanish literature, talk about it, and write about it. Professor Weber was quite knowledgeable, and it's pretty easy to do well. It will be hard if you don't read (or skim) everything though.

I'm a Spanish minor. I love the language, but I'm not the best at it. I wouldn't say I'm the worst either. I feel like the other reviews were from people who are extremely good at Spanish. I honestly did not like Weber. Her expectations were odd and really hard to figure out. We had to do some forum posts, and normally those are easy A's, but she was definitely not one of the easiest grader for those. I normally lose points for grammar.
Going off of that, I feel like her grammar expectations are really weird and unnecessarily harsh too.. Like I've taken many spanish classes before (intro and span 3010), and I was always fine with my grammar. Like my weakest points were just listening and speaking. Last semester when I took her class, I was taking two other spanish classes, and I never got a complaint or heavy criticism about my grammar... but she was extremely harsh about it. She said it was broken even when I checked so many phrases with linguee when she suggested it... It was annoying how I've asked her for help, yet she doesn't help at all and said my grammar is set and good.. but once I receive my papers back, she gives me a low score for grammar.. I seriously started doubting my skills in Spanish in this class... but then I see others can read my essays so I don't know what her deal is. The other classmates in my class also told me that she gave them terrible scores for grammar too, so I just think her expectations are ridiculous.
I'm not a fan of her class because she speaks softly so I can never understand her. Class is always so boring; I dread going. Readings are dry and super long. I would recommend any other professor but Weber tbh. I never hear bad things about Edmundo Geril so go to him!

I ended up with a B in her class. She was so much harder than expected. Least favorite class. Take with different professor!!!
