Benjamin was an excellent professor and I really enjoyed this class! There are a lot of assignments and readings, but this is consistent across all instructors for 3300. Your grade was made up of 3 exams (18% total), 3 papers all about 3 pages (35% total), participation (12%), blog posts (10%), a final (20%) and a presentation (5%). I was overwhelmed looking at all of it at first, but the workload for the class was actually very manageable. Benjamin is one of the fastest graders I've had and he always gave really specific and constructive feedback on papers and graded very fairly. I will say that the readings could take you 20 minutes some nights and 3 hours other nights, but I feel like that would also happen in any 3300 class that is covering various types of literature. Class was usually pretty fun and Benjamin always worked to build personal connections with his students. The environment was very encouraging for speaking- definitely make an effort to talk every class to help your understanding and ensure you get a good participation grade. I'm not sure how long it will be applicable, but when we had to switch to distance learning Benjamin was very easy to reach, altered his expectations for the class appropriately, and had really clear and concise video lectures which I appreciated. Overall, I would highly recommend taking this class with Benjamin if you need to take 3300, and I would honestly recommend the course to anyone who likes literature for its wide variety of interesting content at a manageable pace!
